Our Story
From a Tamil family of Indian heritage, Sivalingam Vasanthakumar (Kumar!) grew up on a dairy farm in Sri Lanka. The outbreak of civil war saw him leave for the UK – studying an MSc in Sustainable Agriculture and going on to rear lambs in West Devon.
Inspired by his mother’s and grandmother’s home-style cooking, he also took up cooking curry and started selling dosa at markets across the South West in 2015 – creating Kumar’s Dosa Bar with the help of his two daughters, Daisy and Molly.
However, as years went on, Kumar increasingly struggled to send his lambs off to slaughter, where in 2019 he decided enough was enough. We stopped livestock farming altogether, donated the flock to the Goodheart Animal Sanctuary and made the Dosa Bar 100% vegan. This decision led to a flurry of media coverage sharing our story across the country…
